Dear Members,
As you must all know by now the Corona virus (COVID-19) presents a very real risk to our community. The government guidelines to reduce the spread and slow down the progress of the virus are evolving and updating daily. Who could have imagined how rapidly and dramatically this would impact daily life in Australia and worldwide?
As our government moves to slow the pace of the virus down to try and prevent it overwhelming our health system, the committee of the BMWMCCWA has considered the rapidly escalating situation and decided that in the interests of its members, we should also make sensible changes to our approach to club activities, until such time as the threat has passed or our health system has developed the resources to successfully counter it.
Therefore, from 18 March 2020 all club events and organised social gatherings will be suspended until further notice. Web services including the Facebook Group and Forum will continue as normal. Members can still meet and ride as they wish, but they should consider their friends and families and take sensible precautions.
This includes:
- Practising sensible social distancing, “no handshakes”
- Wash your hands regularly and avoid touching your face
- Self-isolate if you suspect you have the virus or may have been exposed to the virus until such time as you have confirmed that you are clear.
- If you are exhibiting flu like symptoms such as coughing or sneezing avoid socialising until the symptoms have passed.
For many of us the virus may not be life threatening or even severe, however for a significant number of our members by nature of their age or health or that of their immediate family the virus presents a significant threat. For this reason, we hope you understand and support these measures. Your committee will monitor the situation and revise and provide regular updates to you as circumstances change.
