My son put this short movie together for a school project. I wonder if I can persuade him to put together a club history or some other club event movies ?

Thanks to Nev (Spacey) for giving him some advice and guidance.

Following the May Club General Meeting we will have a short presentation from Perth resident and new club member, Jigme Dorje (F650GS), born in the lap of the Indian Himalayas.

"Growing up riding bikes, travelling like a nomad in the Himalayas has given Jigme much freedom and peace.  He wants to share that with fellow Australian motorbike riders this August through the opportunity to engage in a profound experience journeying through the most majestic and uplifting country in the world.

Jigme's family are well known in the Himalayas; there have even been books written on them.  His sister Khandro Thrinlay Chodon Rinpoche is an internationally respected Buddhist meditation teacher who has led many tours to the Himalayas and sponsors many humanitarian projects there through her charitable foundation, Khachodling.  His older brother Jampal runs an established adventure tours company in India, which has catered to the special needs and requirements of guests for 20 years.  Both have assisted Jigme in making the 'Open Heart Open Road' dream a reality."

Jigme will present on his life experiences riding bikes in the Himalayas and his upcoming tour at the BMW GM at the Vic Park Hotel Monday May 11, 2015

    Members and guests welcome

On the home page of our website we have a picture slideshow, its time to update the content and you are invited to send in your best BMW bike related photo for consideration for the website slideshow.

Just to make it interesting we will judge all entrants to the best photo competition and award the best submission a prize at the Christmas in July Dinner. The judges will be your fellow club members. The committee will select the best submissions and these will be added to the slide show, these pictures will also be posted in their own Gallery on the website and members invited to vote for their favorite.

    Basic guidelines include:

    1. You or someone you know must have taken the photo, you must have permission to use it. i.e. no copyright infringement

    2. It must include a connection to BMW Motorcycles somehow. Either a photo of the bike, the rider, or something that will tie in with the website theme. i.e. not a scenic photo with no bike, no rider and no motorcycle related content

    3. Quantity - you can submit only 1 picture. So it has to be your favorite/best

4.Size - lets try and keep these photo's manageable. Its great that you have a camera that can take high definition 10MB+ photo's but that's way too big for website use. So please keep them no larger than 2 MB. if you don't know how to shrink it, ask someone. Don't email in massive photo's. Preferred format is JPEG

    5. Entry - send your picture to president@bmwmccwa.asn.au title your email - "BMW Photo Competition"
Get your entry in by 30 June 2015, and make sure you put your name in the email so we know who you are?

Motorcycle using dedicated bus lane trial

As you have no doubt heard we recently had the announcement from our Minister for Transport Hon. Dean Nalder that we have finally got the start date for the 12 month trial of motorcycles to share dedicated bus lanes on Beaufort Street between Roe Street in Northbridge in Inglewood and on South Street between Vahland Avenue and the Freeway commencing from March 2nd 2015. The trial will last 12 months and will be monitored and evaluated against a range of safety and bus on-time-running criteria.

It is intended that the trial will allow the Government to make an informed decision about the longer term access to bus lanes by motorcyclists.

This has been almost 3 years to get to this point since our initial meeting with Troy Buswell. We have been asked to be part of the communication plan leading up to the launch and this notice is to advising all motorcycle and scooter riders that our behavior will be monitored by the police, Main Roads Dept. and Dept. of Transport. It is also important to be aware that cars will be turning left from these lanes and we need to be aware that some of them are a bit stupid. We will also be letting car drivers know that they will now need to look in the bus lane for much small vehicles. As for stopped buses I am sure we can pass a 2.4 meter bus in a 3.6 meter lane without too much bother or change into the next lane to pass. So if the trial is a success we will be pushing for all bus lanes to be made available to us but we don’t want to lose this opportunity because of bad behavior by a few riders.

The club receives a number of emails and details for motorcycle tours, most operating in Europe, Asia and Africa.

As an increasing number of members are embarking on overseas trips a new page has been added to our website to list some of the better looking tour operations and provide a link to their websites.

If members provide feedback via the members forum on tours they have completed then relevant comments can be recorded against the tours listed which may be of help to others considering a tour in the future.

If you have a tour you would like to recommend, organise or comment on then post your comments in the members forum or email the president to have the details added to the new web page.
